THE BONES, a feature documentary currently making the festival rounds (CPH:DOX, HotDocs, Sydney FF, DC/DOX). It’s a cinematic exploration of the high-stakes world of dinosaur bone trading, where obsessive collectors compete with museums, scientists, and high-end auction houses to own a piece of the past. It’s a story of intrigue, an illicit caper at the collision of science, commerce and a dark colonial legacy. Jeremy is directing, with Ina Fichman producing and Dogwoof on sales. Website and trailer here.
-
SONS OF DETROIT, a genre bending feature film interweaving narrative, documentary and performance chronicles the story of a white filmmaker and performer raised as part of a black family who returns home to Detroit for the first time in 20 years. His world is turned inside out when he is confronted with the devastation that his city and family experienced in his absence. To understand what happened, he searches out his cousin who is recently home after years in prison. Together, the two men uncover the story of their home and city, in what becomes a complex and profound exploration of race, violence, history and the meaning of family. Jeremy is directing. In post-production, with EPs Joe Brewster, Michéle Stephenson, and Lori Cheatle. Website and trailer here.
-
SANGRE SUCIO, an original cowboy script set on the borderlands between Coahuila, Mexico and south Texas in the closing days of the American Civil War. It centers on a family of Crypto Jews, a dying father and his son who harbors a dark past. Following a prophetic dream, they set out on a perilous journey. Jeremy is writing/directing with Noam Dromi producing. The project was awarded a grant (Reboot Studios) as well as a writing residency (Headlands Center for the Arts). Lookbook here.
